Take My Hand
by Dolen Perkins-Valdez
A historical novel inspired by the true story of Mary Alice and Minnie Relf, two sisters sterilized without their consent in 1973. The story follows Civil Townsend, a young Black nurse who works at a Family Planning Clinic in Alabama, and her journey as she becomes entangled in the lives of the Williams sisters. When Civil discovers the sisters have been sterilized, she is thrust into a national scandal and a quest for justice.
Discussion Leader: UPL Assistant Library Director, Syntychia Kendrick-Samuel.
